Call for NRP 75 “Big Data”

Researchers can submit pre-proposals for NRP 75 projects until 13 January 2016.

​The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is issuing a call for the National Research Programme "Big Data" (NRP 75) based on a mandate from the Federal Council.

NRP 75 supports research on a broad range of topics related to the effective, efficient and appropriate use of big data.

Research modules

NRP 75 comprises three research modules: technical issues, societal aspects and specific applications.

The information technology module (CHF 9 million) addresses data analytics (analysis, exploration, machine learning) and data management as well as security, access, surveillance and confidentiality issues.

The module on societal challenges (CHF 5 million) studies the social acceptance of big data as well as regulatory challenges, economic and societal impacts, and educational aspects.

The applications (CHF 9 million) facilitates the development of big data applications in different sectors of society, for instance in medicine, transportation, or civil protection.

Organisation

The Steering Committee of NRP 75 is composed of six international experts. It is presided over by Professor Christian S. Jensen of the Aalborg University in Denmark.
