Data have been called the oil of the twenty-first century. The ability to analyse large volumes of data is already having a profound impact on society. But this “Big Data” also holds the potential for broad value creation at the societal, industrial and research level if it is used effectively and responsibly. The National Research Programme “Big Data” (NRP 75) was launched in 2015 with the aim of gaining new insights into data analytics, data management and data security; identifying societal and regulatory challenges; and demonstrating the benefits of Big Data in specific contexts. In total, 37 research projects were supported by the programme. The overall budget amounted to 25 million Swiss francs.

The programme’s findings will be presented at the final media conference.
